Our story with Yuvee begins in August 2022 and is ongoing. In this transformative from 0 to 1 project, our mission was to revolutionize content discovery in the streaming landscape. Yuvee, an all-in-one streaming app, emerged from the collaborative efforts of our dedicated team. Our focus was on simplifying the user experience, providing a centralized hub for streaming content from various platforms.

Our journey to understand the problem led to:
The first part was white paper research to explore the current streaming services market. While we often think of the top American streaming giants like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and Disney+, there are actually more than 200 streaming services available worldwide.
In the second part, I conducted a competitive analysis of existing stream aggregation apps like Reelgood, JustWatch, and IMDB. However, I found that they lacked essential features to help users discover content quickly and effectively. There was also a significant gap in personalization features, like customized homepages.
Our user research aimed to unravel customer streaming habits and evaluate user experiences before launch. Targeting 12 participants from Canada and the United States, aged 18-44, each currently subscribed to two or more paid streaming services, for 45-minute interviews, the study strategically aligned with competitor market data, representing a significant majority of streaming service user bases.
Conducted through a semi-structured approach with a discussion guide comprising three main sections:
Several pivotal insights emerged from the research:

Our design journey had three big steps:
In the ideation phase, our team embarked on a mission to transform the streaming experience, placing a premium on simplicity and user-centric design. Our creative journey honed in on three pivotal pillars: Aggregation, Personalization, and Efficiency. These pillars served as the guiding principles, steering the development of innovative features and solutions envisioned for the Yuvee platform.
After our brainstorming sessions, we transitioned into the design phase with a focus on two critical aspects: information architecture and low-fi wireframes for each feature. Consider the information architecture as the guiding structure, akin to a well-designed roadmap for users to navigate seamlessly and stay engaged. It's the strategic plan ensuring a successful user journey.
On the other hand, the low-fi wireframes serve as our creative sketchpad. They allow us to rapidly explore multiple ideas and solutions within a short timeframe. While they may not be the final polished product, these wireframes play a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for the more refined high-fi mockups in the later stages of the design process.
Our design system meticulously integrates color psychology, accessibility, and comprehensive design systems across multiple devices. Key elements include:
The final design of the Yuvee app incorporates a range of features aimed at addressing the content discovery challenge:
User testing played a pivotal role in refining the Yuvee project, ensuring that the app's performance and user experience met the highest standards. Through two rounds of testing with a diverse group of users, we garnered invaluable insights that informed iterative improvements to the platform.
During testing, an issue arose where some users encountered broken links, hindering their ability to complete user tasks effectively. This issue stemmed from occasional content additions or removals on streaming platforms, resulting in challenges in keeping our database up to date. To address this, our backend developers initiated an investigation into our backend database to rectify the issue promptly.
Furthermore, we realized the importance of providing users with a means to report issues such as broken links. To enhance transparency and user engagement, we implemented a "Share Feedback" feature on the content details page. This feature allows users to report broken links or inaccuracies, enabling us to promptly address and resolve any issues reported by multiple users. If the same content is reported multiple times, we will prompt users that the link has been reported as broken multiple times until we thoroughly resolve the issue. This approach allows us to buy time for our developers to fix the links while ensuring transparency for users regarding the situation.
During testing, feedback highlighted user confusion regarding the "Watch" button, particularly when content was not available on their subscribed streaming platforms. To mitigate this confusion, we introduced a prompt above the "Watch" button to clarify the user's viewing status.
This prompt informs users that the content is not available on their subscribed streaming platforms and advises them to purchase it on an alternative platform if they wish to watch it. By providing clear guidance on their viewing status, users can make informed decisions about their content consumption before proceeding to view advertisements.
